A General Ledger (GL) Accountant maintains the company's central financial database, recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and generating financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements. Key responsibilities include ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, collaborating with other departments, and supporting management with financial data analysis to aid in decision-making


Key Responsibilities

  • Transaction Recording: Accurately record all financial transactions, including income, expenses, assets, and liabilities, into the general ledger system. 
  • Account Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliation of general ledger accounts and bank accounts to ensure accuracy and proper alignment with source documents. 
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and generate key financial statements, such as the income statement (profit and loss) and the balance sheet. 
  • Data Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and fluctuations, providing insights into the company's financial health. 
  • Compliance: Ensure all financial records comply with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. 
  • Period-End Closing: Support and perform monthly and annual general ledger closings, ensuring all accounts are processed and closed correctly. 
  • Fixed Asset Management: Track and manage the company's fixed assets, including maintaining the fixed asset ledger. 
  • Departmental Support: Collaborate with various departments to gather information, complete accurate records, and provide accounting support. 


Job Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is generally required. 
  • Accounting Principles: A strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards. 
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel. 
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data. 
  • Detail-Oriented: A high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills. 
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments.
